Vaporwave is a genre of electronic music and art style that emerged in the early 2010s. The subculture surrounding vaporwave is often associated with an ambiguous or satirical take on consumer capitalism and popular culture, and tends to be characterized by a surrealist engagement with technology and advertising of previous decades. Creating this virtual space in the style of vapor wave, I am expressing my own relationship with technology and how I feel sucked in by the alluring energy of the internet. The bright colors represent the appeal of technology and how easy it is to be distracted by it. With all of the interest in virtual and augmented reality, I wonder how much of our lifes will be integrated with technology. To explore this idea I made 3D scanned models of real life objects and spaces using an Xbox Kinect, bringing the real world into a fantising virtual world.

Galaxies is a collection of embellished space pattern fabric stretched onto embroidery hoops. Inspired by the dazzling night sky, each hand sewn bead is placed to resemble the stars and planets in space that can be seen when the sun goes down. Some of these sparkling night scenes have one or more negative space cut outs that reveal another layer of hand beaded fabric or an abstract acrylic painting.
